Dr James M. Clinton received his veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania. The prestigeous Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston offered Dr Clinton a internship in small animal medicine and surgery, which he accepted and completed prior to undertaking a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr Clinton opened the Animal Eye Clinic in New Jersey in 1971, which was one of the first independant ophthalmology referral services in the East. Dr Clinton has been a Diplomate of the ACVO since 1972.

During his studies at The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, Copenhagen, Denmark, Dr Evans developed a particular interest in Intraocular Surgery and traveled extensively both in Europe and the US to visit renowned veterinary ophthalmic surgeons.

Dr Evans received several study grants from private foundations and the College of Veterinary Medicine to help finance these travels. Dr Gaiddon in Cannes, France, was instrumental in teaching him microsurgery both during three visits to Cannes and also when Dr Evans took part in the Alcon Canine Phaco Course held in Paris in 1998. Dr Gaiddon was the first veterinary ophthalmologist to develop both rigid and foldable intraocular lenses (IOLs) in the world. IOLs are used to replace the natural lens during cataract surgery in order to achieve near normal (emmetropic) vision after surgery.

Dr Evans graduated from The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2000, and moved to the United Kingdom shortly thereafter to spend time in clinics with the British Veterinary Ophthalmologist, Dr David Williams. After one year with Dr. Williams, Dr Evans went into general practice to get a good foundation in general small animal medicine and surgery.

Just one year later he was offered the prestigious position as Lecturer in Veterinary Ophthalmology at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, where he taught for one year before returning to clinical specialty practice. The following three years were spent at the Animal Medical Center Referral Services in Manchester, England.

Dr Evans is a member of the European Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ESVO) and is currently completing an ophthalmology residency with Dr James Clinton at the Animal Eye Clinic in Medford, New Jersey (http://www.animaleyeclinic.us).  Dr Evans is also engaged in ocular pathology at the Scheie Eye Institute, University of Pensylvania, Philadelphia.

Dr Evans is an active member of the United Kingdom Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKSCRS/ESCRS) as one of few veterinarians, as he has a particular interest in perfecting lens surgery in both small and large animals.

Dr Evans founded www.mammaleye.com in 2000.
